Jekyll Island, where Anna's parents live, is a beautiful island and state park off the coast of Georgia. Once the winter home of the nation's wealthiest families, Jekyll has been owned by the State of Georgia and dedicated to conservation since World War II. Only 35% of the island may be developed, and the island is famous for its conservation of sea turtles. First inhabited by Native Americans, Jekyll Island became a fort when Georgia was first colonized in the 1700s. The original home of the fort's major still stands on the island, along with ruins of various other structures of the time. The French DuBignon family then owned it for a 100 year span as their home, eventually selling the island to wealthy northerners in the late 1800s. For the next several decades, the Rockefeller, Vanderbilt, Gould, Crane, Morgan, and Goodyear families spent their winters on Jekyll. They built the famous Jekyll Island Club Hotel as well as the handful of mansions in Jekyll's "historic district."

The Jekyll Club was once the gathering place of the Rockefellers, Vanderbilts, Morgans, and other wealthy families in the early 1900s and has been maintained as a historic and upscale resort for guests today. It is in the historic district on the marsh side of the island and is absolutely beautiful.
