Roanoke [ROA] - straight shot to Lex and closest ~50 min (52 miles) Charlottesville [CHO] - lots of flight options, beautiful drive ~1 hr 16 min (76 miles) Lynchburg [LYH] - beautiful drive in the mountains~ 1 hr 9 min (56 miles) Richmond [RIC] - larger airport ~2 hr 15 min (146 miles) Washington Dulles [IAD] - largest airport, near DC ~2 hr 40 min (175 miles) ALL AIRPORTS WILL REQUIRE SHUTTLING OR DRIVING TO LEXINGTON. There are other small airports close by that have very few flights if you want to try your luck. There are also other large airports further distances away, if you wanted to visit other parts of Virginia as part of your trip.
Rental Car
If you are trying to decide whether or not it is worth it to rent a car, we highly recommend that you do. Lexington is a very small town, so there are only a small number of Ubers or other rideshare options available during your visit. Lexington has lots of things to do in the downtown and the surrounding areas, but we think you’ll really enjoy having a car to take you wherever you need or want to go. Also, the scenery is absolutely beautiful, one of our favorite things to do is just get in the car and drive around (to the Blue Ridge Parkway, for example).
