We met in the summer of 2014 working ACU Leadership Camps. At that time, we were just coworkers, but I noticed Todd's celebrity and magnetism around the kids. The ability to utterly captivate 150 4th-6th graders is one of my favorite qualities about Todd to this day. A couple of years later, we both had started and ended other relationships, and I needed a date to my club formal during the spring of my senior year in college. I asked each of my roommates to present a suitable date to me because I needed options, people. My roomie, Amy mentioned Todd and I said, "Alright, let's text him." She snaps a selfie of us at her desk and sends it to Todd with a proposal to attend the formal with me. He said yes! We dance, we scream, we jump for joy. Todd and I start dating after the formal (or maybe slightly before?) Our first date was a dinner at Abi-Haus in Abilene. They don't have a ton of meat-free options but I didn't care. I came home and told my other roomie, Samantha that my date was the best date I'd ever been on. We went on a few more dates. Later that summer, Todd and I were both working ACU Leaderships Camps again. (Full circle, am I right?) I felt totally infatuated with him. He was sweet, hilarious and was quickly becoming my best friend. In the Sonic Drive-Thru, he asked me to be his girlfriend. Obviously, I said yes. The rest is history!
We met at camp and had some of the same friends at ACU. Rachel asked me to Siggie formal her senior year even though I was an old man who had already graduated. We had Olive Garden and she told me she was a vegetarian. That was almost a deal-breaker but her beautiful face helped me push past that minor flaw. For our first date, we went to AbiHaus. Rachel was wearing a green jacket with a black shirt and jeans. We had dinner and I thought the date was going really well. I asked her to frozen yogurt and she emphatically said, "Yes!" I thought that was a good sign. But the next time I asked her out she didn't respond for 4 hours, so I was buggin'. Don't worry. She finally responded and we had many other dates after that. I was blessed to know we were moving to the same place so that we could further our relationship more. Our love blossomed and flourished for the next four years.
