A Match Made In Heaven (...and Online)

While they used to cringe every time they said it, it’s true—Rachel and Spencer met on Tinder. Both recent college grads, Spencer was a DMV native looking for a relationship, while Rachel was a Mainer in DC "for the summer," hoping for free dinners and a tour guide. When they matched, Spencer sent Rachel a message saying she seemed "really pretty" and added that he didn’t want their conversation to get lost in the app. Instead, he decided to “shoot his shot,” shared his phone number, and told her to text him if she wanted to grab a drink. A few days later, Rachel, convinced this message was copy-pasted to at least 100 other women, decided to call him out. She texted him without introducing herself, challenging him by saying that unless he was “shooting his shot left and right,” he’d know who it was. To Rachel’s surprise—and proving his sincerity—Spencer immediately replied, “How’s your Sunday, Rachel?” Spencer was 100% genuine and won Rachel over instantly. Despite rescheduling on each other more times than they’d like to admit, they finally went on their first date at Don Tito in Clarendon. They talked so much that afternoon, the chips and salsa went untouched. By the time Rachel was switching metro lines in Rosslyn on her way home, she already had a text from Spencer asking to hang out again. That evening, Spencer was watching The Bachelor and unpacking the details of the date with his close friends Mike and Ally. When he explained how well it went, Ally jokingly asked, “What if you guys get married?” Fast-forward nearly six years, Rachel and Spencer have gone from a period of living 800 miles apart to sharing four different apartments together. They’ve traveled to multiple countries, road tripped tens of thousands of miles, built a life with their adorable pup, and created countless memories. It serves as a reminder that sometimes, the smallest, seemingly insignificant actions can lead you to the most important person in your life. From viewing profiles to exchanging vows, one small swipe became the start of forever.
