How does a guy who relocated to Australia in 2015 and a girl living in Hong Kong find each other? Covid! Our story began during unprecedented times, when the whole world came to a standstill. Covid had panicked Harman’s parents and brought him back to Hong Kong, where he returned as a handsome young adult. But our story didn’t begin for another eight months. So, how do two people in the same city (complete strangers) cross paths? Enter Gen-Z love and Instagram, LOL. Harman saw an opening on Instagram and decided to take his shot, sliding into the DMs. The aim was simple: to introduce himself and casually let her know he was back in town during Covid 😉. But that one message sparked something unexpected, something that led us here. I noticed that Navan would be in my “ends” for a petition signing which was a perfect chance to finally say hello in person. I marked the date (06/12/2020) and made sure I was on my A-game, fresh haircut and all. On the day, I showed up at the location where Navan and her friends were getting signatures. All I cared about was saying hi to her. But of course, obstacles appeared in the form of mutual friends who unintentionally blocked my one-on-one moment by steering me toward other people at the booth. Finally, I spotted her. Just as I started to approach, I saw my dad’s car pull up and my entire family had come to sign the petition too. My plan to have a personal moment with Navan? Ruined. Gutted, I came back later hoping to catch her again but they had already packed up and left. However, Along with them, they took a little spark that had just ignited. Fast forward to New Year’s 2020. At midnight, a message popped up on my phone and it was from someone I didn’t expect. It was Navan, wishing me a Happy New Year. In that moment, I realised I’d just hit the game-winning buzzer-beater 🏀. From then on, we started seeing each other more often. The bond grew quickly. We skipped work more times than we should probably admit, and even found creative ways to meet, like donating blood together (yes, that really happened). The spark wasn’t just real, it was mutual. Ten months in, we finally said the words: I love you. Our story had officially begun. And then, bang! On our very first monthsary, Harman had a major accident. He was bedridden for three months. Meeting up became hard, but our love only grew stronger. At one point, hospital appointments became our main date venue lol. After he recovered, the world began to open up again. Covid restrictions eased, and Australia reopened its borders. Harman had to return. The questions hung heavy in the air: Is this going to be a long-distance relationship? Is this the end? But Navan had other plans. She enrolled at UNSW and moved to Australia which was a bold leap to continue our story. That story has led us to November 8th, where we finally put a ring on it and begin our long journey to becoming Mr and Mrs. ❤️
