It all started while Matt was away on vacation in Myrtle Beach and Stephanie was attending a wedding back in North Bay. Matt's friend happened to be at the same wedding as Stephanie and was trying to put in a good word for him. At the time Stephanie had no interest in meeting anyone new as she was leaving for a 3 week trip to Thailand the next day. Later in the night after a "few" alcoholic beverages were consumed, Matt's number was given to Stephanie and a simple text of "hey" was sent - not by her, but by her co-worker. From there Matt finished his trip and Stephanie took off to Thailand but they kept in touch by texting despite the 11 hour time difference. After 3 weeks they finally met face to face on May 31st, 2018 and the rest is history.

About a year and a half into COVID and not much travelling done, Stephanie and Matt decided to plan a trip within Ontario to explore. Matt planned the trip, including all of the places to stay and stops along the way, which focused around breweries and wineries. One of the destinations was 2nd Streetlight Estate Winery in Clinton, ON. A family owned winery where they enjoyed a wine tasting on the back deck over looking the scenery. Before leaving the winery they stopped to take pictures among the vineyards. Matt started to say something sweet with Stephanie only to respond with "what are you sucking up for". Stephanie then went to take pictures of the grapes on the vines and when she turned around Matt was down on one knee asking her to marry him. After asking if it was a joke.....Stephanie of course said yes.
