Rotation at Cook County Hospital is where it all started...so romantic we know. Michael was on an externship for the oral surgery program while Harlean was on a dental school rotation. Michael, being a very good student, began the conversation by asking Harlean if she had completed all the pre-requisite online courses. Harlean, in turn, made fun of him. Later that day she invited him to a group lunch she planned with the other students and he respectfully declined (classic). Three months later, and a less than .002% chance, they got paired at Midwinter Meeting - a large dental conference in Chicago. Michael saw Harlean running towards the room (late as always) and decided to hold the door closed. After she realized it wasn't locked and looked up to see Michael playing a prank on her, she yelled "oh my god its YOU" through his laughing and smirking. They spent the next eight hours playing chess, talking music and finding out they would both be moving to Arizona for residency! They went on their first date in Chicago (r.i.p. The Betty but yay for Pizza Parlor) and six months later went on their second date in Phoenix, after Michael came to Harlean and Jaslean's epic birthday party at their parents house. and the rest is history...

December 14th was the craziest, most chaotic and best day of Michael and Harlean's lives! Michael came up with an elaborate scheme to take Harlean's car away so she wouldn't be "late" to the proposal. He made a plan with her parents. They were going to pick her up for her dad's birthday dinner at Flo's (one of Gurvinder's favorite restaurants) which was also down the street from Michael's house. Harlean told her parents that she would meet them there and proceeded to "bird" back and forth between the restaurant. Meanwhile, Michael planned the most romantic Christmas proposal. With the help of a very talented violinist playing Clair De Lune, a million candles and rose petals and his best friend Chris Summey on the lookout - he pulled it off. Despite almost burning the house down when he attempted to light a fire - yes, there was soot on his nose when he proposed. And despite Harlean scootering around Tempe in her vans and jeans, the proposal could not have been more perfect or more of a surprise. Through laughs, tears and Michael having to ask three times "if that's a yes" she finally gave her answer!! and here we are now :)
