How We Met

Once upon a time in the land of Colorado State University, two Rams roamed the campus at different times, blissfully unaware that their paths would one day cross. Chris, a seasoned CSU graduate from the class of 2016, and Amy, a fresh-faced Ram who embarked on her CSU journey in the fall of the same year, had numerous close encounters without ever realizing it. This is not your run-of-the-mill love story; think more the sitcom "How I Met Your Mother." Parties were attended, mutual friends were made, and countless opportunities for a chance encounter slipped through the cracks. It was like a series of near misses that would put a sitcom to shame. Both were involved in Ram Catholic at different times, fostering friendships and deepening their faith separately. Fast forward a few years, and both found themselves in Denver, chasing goals sparked during COVID. Chris was on a mission to turn a dump into a dream home, and Amy was diving headfirst into the real estate world with her newly acquired license. The stage was set for our protagonists to finally share the same space. The first scene: a church pew at Our Lady of Lourdes. Chris, strategically seated behind the "tall pretty girl" (spoiler: that's Amy), during mass. Amy? Oblivious to the potential handshake during the sign of peace. Classic almost-met material. The real action kicked off at an Our Lady of Lourdes gathering at the grotto event. Mutual friends (shoutout to Brett & Paige) introduced the two, but instead of a rom-com encounter, it was a conversation about real estate that kicked things off. Not exactly the meet-cute we all expected. Months later, they both found themselves at a friend's fish fry. Amy walked into a room filled with strangers, spotted an open chair next to the familiar face of Chris, and thought, “He looks safe.“ Not only did he end up being safe, but he also ended up engaging in a wonderful conversation.
Now, here's where it gets interesting. Chris, still unsure of his chances (after taking her roommate of a month on a few dates the fall prior), failed to pick up on Amy's not-so-subtle hints. Amy, on the other hand, left the party with Chris on her mind. It took a casual Facebook friend request – the millennial version of dropping the handkerchief – to kick things into gear. Chris, seizing the opportunity, slid into her DMs with a killer opening line: "So, what do you think about these interest rates?" Smooth, right? Turns out, not only did Amy have thoughts on interest rates, but she was also interested. After that, it didn’t take long at all for Chris to ask Amy on a date. The rest, as they say, is unconventional history.
