Lucky I'm in Love With My Best Friend

October 29, 2009

In the spring of 2007, my family moved from our home in Wichita Falls a few miles out in the country. I stayed at the high school I was attending, but in the fall semester of 2007, my sisters started attending school in Holliday, TX. My mom began working there in the high school and my sisters became involved in their band program. Meghan became friends with Alyson (Dylan's twin sister), then I became friends with Alyson, and soon enough Dylan was tagging along. Dylan slowly worked his way into my heart, and by the time I graduated high school in 2009, he was one of my best friends. When I moved away for college that fall, Dylan remained one of my closest friends from back home and we would often stay up talking on the phone for hours. He DEFINITELY had a crush on me, but I "put him in the friendzone" for a while and thought that was it. But through the hours of talking and hanging out together every time I came home to visit my parents, I came to realize that I had developed feelings for him too! On October 29, 2009, Dylan asked me to be his girlfriend and we swore to each other that no matter what happened between us as a couple, we would be best friends first and always. So far, we've kept that pact together and I love living life with my best friend by my side. Love, Sarah

The Luckiest

We were both closing in on the end of our academic careers, which is when we both agreed that we would talk about finally tying the knot. I spent months looking at rings trying to find the one that I thought was the perfect match for Sarah. I wouldn't make any compromise, so around the time of our 7th anniversary I found the perfect ring and had it ordered. It was going to come in right around Thanksgiving, which was perfect, as we were going to be in Indiana with her family. I had the ring delivered there and started thinking of a plan. Luckily for me, Sarah's parents had scheduled family pictures the day after Thanksgiving, which was the best situation I could have asked to happen. I started planning how I was going to do it and what I was going to tell the photographer. Unfortunately, it rained the night before and all morning, so the photographer cancelled on us. I had to give up on those plans and come up with something else. Fast forward to Christmas, we are back in Indiana and I am trying to think of any way to propose. I finally decided that before the family Christmas party, I was going to take Sarah on a walk with Delilah and propose on a beautiful path by their house. I was anxiously waiting for the time to come up, but it starts raining, again. It doesn't stop raining for the rest of the day. I didn't know what to do, and I was really upset. But I was determined to propose, so after dinner, I suggested we take Delilah for a walk as she had been locked up for hours. We go outside, and it's cold and raining and dark, and Sarah wants to go back inside. I tell her to hold on a minute, I hide the ring box in Delilah's bandanna and tell her to "get mom." She runs straight to her and I get down on one knee and finally ask Sarah to marry me. All the while, Delilah is running around us, wrapping us up in her leash (101 Dalmatians style). I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. - Dylan
