John Mason and Megan met in 2016, at Frank's Barbershop in Knoxville, TN. Frank's, now known as Gambuzza's, is an upscale barbershop in town, and where Megan has been employed for over ten years. John Mason had been to Franks a few times before, but this time, he selected a cute stylist that went by the name of Britan, which happened to be the same name of his beloved family dog. They connected instantly by having mutual friends, sharing stories of travels, favorite hikes, and their love of Tennessee Athletics. Britan was even willing to share that her real name was Megan, and their friendship was solidified. At the time, John Mason was working seasonally in Alaska, but they stayed in touch through social media and the annual hair cut when he was in town. It wasn't until May of 2020, when John Mason was back in Tennessee briefly, and in need of a haircut, that Megan asked if they could go for a hike before he returned to Alaska. Their first "date" was a hike along Honey Creek Loop in Big South Fork Recreational Area, followed by dinner at Cracker Barrel, (Megan's choice), and ice cream in downtown Knoxville. They followed that up with a second date where they enjoyed bbq along the Foothills Parkway, and a sunset atop Clingman's Dome in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. It was that evening that John Mason invited Megan to visit him in Alaska. The following day, John Mason took a flight to Minneapolis to begin driving back north with some friends. He and Megan either text, called or FaceTimed everyday, and realized this was becoming more than a friendship. It didn't take two weeks before Megan had a plane ticket to visit at the end of summer, and it couldn't get there fast enough. On September 5th, 2020, along a pull off overlooking the Turnigan Arm, they shared their first kiss. From there, began a trip of a lifetime starting with a beautiful 11 day exploration of the Alaskan wilderness. They continued their adventurous romance through trips across the US and abroad, leading to John Mason's return to Knoxville full time in 2021. In October 2023, on a quest to discover the wonders of Sedona, Arizona - they found their way along a hidden trail to view the picturesque desert sunset. It was at that perfect moment, John Mason knelt down on one knee and asked Megan for her hand in marriage. On September 3rd, 2024, they recited their vows and eloped to Iceland. They were accompanied by their photographer, Christina, and a Lutheran priest, Johanna, who gave the blessing outside of the Vik í Mýrdal Church, overlooking the North Atlantic Ocean. The happy couple followed up their ceremony with a ten day exploration of Iceland. A place Megan had always wanted to visit, and previously canceled so she could go visit some guy in Alaska. John Mason and Megan currently reside in Knoxville, in a home that they own, along with their two adoring cats, Peyton and Elli. They are excited to share their story with you, along with their gallery of photos and video of their elopement. They look forward to celebrating their love with you soon!
