Back in 2012, Isaac and Lindsay met in the lunchroom of the Holdrege Middle School during the Summer Honors Program (SHP). This was Lindsay's 2nd summer in the program and Isaac's 1st. Since Isaac was already in a dating relationship, the two only hung out as friends with a larger friend group. Fast forward to Isaac's 2nd year and Lindsays 3rd, Isaac was single and Lindsay was loving Isaac's charm and ginger locks! The two talked and flirted throughout the whole two-week program and a little after SHP was over, but the fling died out after a bit and the two stopped talking. Now the fun part of the story: It was the Saturday before SHP was starting up again - Isaac's 3rd and Lindsay's 4th year. Madi (Lindsay's childhood best friend and bridesmaid) and Lindsay went to Kearney to watch the movie, "The Fault in Our Stars." The two friends were waiting for the movie to start, checking their phones. All of a sudden, Madi starts getting popcorn thrown at her from a random guy she has never seen before, who was sitting a few rows down. She gives the guy a "WHAT THE HECK?!" gesture and he points to Lindsay. Madi rams her elbow into Lindsay's side and says, "that dude was throwing popcorn at me and then started pointing at you." Madi points to the guy and Lindsay starts jumping over the rows of seats to get to him while yelling, "ISAAC MY GINGER!!" (Which was what Lindsay called Isaac at the time and is still his name in her phone today with the old-time smiley emoticon: =) Isaac was the fifth wheel on a movie date and unfortunately made Madi somewhat of a seventh wheel that night. Isaac and Lindsay's fling from the prior year began to rekindle and a week after SHP, the two were officially in a relationship.
Isaac drove from Cozad to pick up Lindsay in Holdrege. In Lindsay's driveway, Isaac instructed Lindsay to open his glove box. Lindsay, being the stubborn person she is, said, "no." The two then made their way to Kearney for dinner and a movie. They decided to go to Perkins in Kearney for supper. Then they made their way over to Kearney Cinema 8 to watch the animated children's movie "How to Train Your Dragon 2." After the movie was finished, Isaac drove Lindsay back to Holdrege in a terrible rain storm. When they got to Lindsay's house it was still pouring so she stayed in the car for a little while and the two talked for what seemed like several hours waiting for the rain to die out. Within that car conversation was when Isaac asked Lindsay once again to open the glovebox. This time she did. In the glovebox, she found candy (which was supposed to be used for the movie) and a note officially asking Lindsay to be his girlfriend with about 20 different options to check (one of them being "for $5" and Lindsay was very tempted to check that box to be funny). As the story goes, they started officially dating that night.
Lindsay was flying back from her 3 month-long study abroad trip in Europe- over 22 hours in travel time. Isaac and his family were waiting to pick Lindsay up from the Omaha airport. Once she landed, Lindsay had to wait for her carry on luggage to get pulled and brought up to her from the bottom of the plane. She unfortunately was one of the last few people to get her bag pulled. Meanwhile, a nervous Isaac was waiting and watching as tons of people were leaving the gate- none of which were Lindsay. Finally, Lindsay got her bag but made a quick stop at the restroom to freshen up before she got to see Isaac again. By this time, most all of the passengers in Lindsay's plane were gone but Isaac was still waiting for the only passenger he cared about to make her way to him. She finally came out and was excited to see Isaac and the whole Hueftle family waiting for her return. Isaac and Lindsay hugged for the first time in months and then he said to her, "the last few months have made me realize that I don't want to spend another moment with out you by my side. Will you marry me?" Lindsay said yes and the rest is history.
