It all started when Josh moved here during our 6th grade year. We weren't instant friends, but when put together in a 7th grade math class (shout out Ms. Ward!) - something clicked, and we never looked back. A Caroline County, MD farm girl and a "skater boy" that was born in San Diego - living proof that opposites attract. Throughout middle school we were the best of friends. From drawing on each other's notebooks in Statistics and making churros together for a Spanish class project, to spending snow days at each other's houses and sneaking out at night just to hang out at the end of the street (sorry mom & dad!). Half-way through our Junior year of high-school, something changed. On New Years Day 2015, Josh FINALLY asked me to be his girlfriend. 6 years (and one day) later, he took me to the beach and asked me to be his wife, and I said YES!
Josh came up with the idea that we go to the beach for our anniversary, in January. I thought nothing of it because he was taking me to do one of my favorite things - find shark's teeth. I was so excited because being winter, the beaches would be empty and we could have it all to ourselves! We made sifters the night before, bought waterproof gloves, put on our muck boots, and headed to Calvert Cliffs. The night before, I had a dream that he proposed on the beach the next day. Not wanting to get my hopes up, I pushed that thought to the back of my mind. Still, I couldn't help but glance at his pocket during the 2 hour drive to the beach, wondering if there was a ring in there. The first beach we went to was busy, and I knew he wouldn't do it in a crowd. After a few hours of sifting through the freezing cold water and sand, we headed to Chick-Fil-A for lunch. This is the point where I completely forgot about the dream and the possible impending proposal. After lunch, we decided to stop at a private beach, called Matoaka, to see if we could find a couple more fossils before heading home. We each paid $10 to access the beach, and hiked through a forest of bamboo to a beautiful beach nestled in the cliffs. We walked along looking for shells and fossils, talking about how this was going to be our new go-to fossil hunting spot. It was perfect, and there were no people. I picked up a shell, told Josh how perfect it was, and slipped it in my green fanny pack. Yup, I was wearing a fanny pack. With my back turned to him, Josh said "look at the one I found". I turned around excitedly, expecting a massive Megladon tooth or a perfectly polished shell. Nope. A RING! He was on one knee in the cold, wet sand, with the biggest smile on his face. Naturally, I said "NUH UH", and "ARE YOU JOKING" about 50 times before he reminded me that he had asked me a question. Of course, I eventually said YES! I'm still in disbelief that he wants me to be his wife - fanny pack & all!
