You could say it was love at first sight and all in God’s perfect timing. Kylie was at a concert at Kanza Hall with her friends, and after listening to them talk about a guy they wanted to set her up with, she explained how she was just enjoying spending time with her friends and trusted that God would put the right man in her life when the time was right...and apparently that time was about 45 minutes later. Ethan wasn’t planning on going out that night, but his sister luckily convinced him to. The concert ended and Kylie was on the dance floor with her friends when Ethan spotted her from a distance. She was heading off when Ethan came over, held out his hand and said, “Hey! You wanna dance?” They two-stepped to a song, and then Kylie’s girlfriends pulled her away to go dance to a song with them. This didn’t discourage Ethan at all, and he came up and asked her to dance again right after that song was over. They spent the whole night dancing and talking and quickly realized how much they had in common. A random lady even asked how long they’d been together. At the end of the night, Ethan asked Kylie if she’d want to get dinner the next weekend. Kylie called her sister on the drive home, telling her about this guy she met and how excited she was that he seemed to share all the values and interests she had. Ethan spent the drive home telling his sister how different this woman was and how they had a strong connection from the very first dance. Kylie spent all week smiling, still in shock about this seemingly perfect man she met. She was a little hesitant about the timing with everything going on in her life, but couldn’t shake the feeling that this guy was it. Even when she journaled the night she met Ethan, her journal’s verse in the top corner for that day was her favorite, Proverbs 3:5, just another sign that God knew what he was doing and even though it felt crazy that she felt this strongly about someone she just met, maybe it really was meant to be.
It was about Tuesday when Ethan texted Kylie to get “all his ducks in a row” for the weekend, and planned the first date for that Saturday. Ethan was nervous before this date with Kylie, which was odd because he did not get nervous before dates. He even called his grandma on the way there to get his mind off how nervous he was. Ethan purposefully got there early so he could be waiting outside for her even in the cold of February, so they could walk in the restaurant together. Everything went great from the moment Kylie walked around the corner at the restaurant, until the end when Kylie was saying bye and said “ok well I might see you again.” Ethan was so disappointed and not sure how Kylie felt. Secretly Kylie was smitten, but of course couldn’t seem too eager! Ethan ended up asking Kylie on a second date the next weekend, and even though Ethan was in busy season, Kylie was working and studying, and they were 55 minutes from each other, from then on they were inseparable and saw each other every weekend.
It wasn’t long before Kylie and Ethan started talking about marriage. What started as Ethan basically saying “you’re it but… I think it takes a year to get to know someone so we aren’t even going to talk about marriage until after that…” quickly turned into Ethan having picked out the perfect engagement spot only six months after dating. He had it all planned out about 9 months in advance for a pretty spring engagement. Well things quickly changed and Ethan was getting impatient. He completely changed the spring date, and planned something sooner for December 27th, 2019 because Kylie absolutely loves Christmas time. Although Kylie was not surprised at all (pretty impossible with Kylie), Ethan had thought of every detail to make the night so special for Kylie. He proposed at the Holladay Distillery, where they had done a tour that summer and really enjoyed it. If you know Kylie, you know she loves whiskey, so this was very fitting. He did it at Kylie’s favorite time of the year, and made sure it’d be dark so all the Christmas lights could be seen. He bought ALL 14 tour spots on the last tour on a Friday night so that they’d have the entire place to themselves. He had Kylie’s two girlfriends that were there on the night they met take her on the tour, and his sister hidden away to take pictures, so everyone that was there the night it all started was there the night he asked to spend forever with her. After having a drink to celebrate at the distillery, Ethan had planned a surprise party with their closest friends and family to celebrate. Kylie’s best friend from out of town even came in for the surprise! Ethan had their parents make chili since that’s the first dinner he cooked for Kylie after their second date snow tubing. Ethan gave a heartfelt toast, and the party continued at a local bar where Kylie and Ethan danced the night away, just like how it all started.
