Although Adam and Laura both went to Purdue (and there is a picture of them together to prove it!), they did not officially meet until April 29th, 2014. A mutual friend was in town, and invited them both to come out for dinner and drinks. After someone commented that Laura had not ordered the restaurant’s infamous sweet potato fries, Laura proclaimed her hatred for the vegetable. After overhearing this conversation, Adam made a bet with Laura, that he could in fact, get her to like sweet potatoes. After a night of talking, getting to know each other, Adam grilling Laura on her favorite foods, bonding over coming from large families, and drinking a bit too much Whiskey, Adam asked Laura for her number. A few days later, Laura was very surprised (and a little bit angry!) that Adam had not texted her. Adam, however, was equally upset that his charms had not warranted a response. It turns out, that Laura had accidentally given Adam a 13 digit phone number (must have been the Whiskey!) . After a friend intervened and set the situation straight, a first date was made. Recipes were created, and finally, it was time to settle a bet. Adam made Laura a homemade dinner that ended with what would win him the bet, and eventually her heart. They say the way to a man’s heart is through his stomach; turns out that works for women, too. Adam served Laura's favorite dessert, with a twist: sweet potato Crème Brule! It's safe to say Adam won the bet, and thus began their wonderful adventure together!
It was the Saturday that Adam's grandparents were coming to visit. Laura set her alarm for 8:00 AM so she could clean before they arrived. To Laura's surprise, she woke up at 9:30 (after Adam sneakily changed her alarm!) . And she was very confused to find Adam missing. When she saw a note on the bathroom mirror, she knew something was up. "Good morning my love! Today is the start of your great adventure. Get dressed, eat breakfast, and go to the spot where I first knew I loved you!" Adam planned a scavenger hunt throughout the city. The first stop even included picking up Laura's best friend to accompany her on the adventure, all the way from Washington D.C. All of the stops were places that held significance within their relationship. The last stop was Laura's favorite painting at the Art Institute, where Adam got down on one knee and asked the question. Afterwards was a surprise pizza party!
