The last thing Sam or Amanda expected to find during Freshman year was lifelong love. However, that all changed on a sunny Happy Valley Saturday at a Penn State football game. It was a normal Game Day for me (Amanda) - I was tagging along to a game with some of the first floor Tener squad and noticed this cutie in our crowd wearing a backwards cap (Sam). During the game as we were standing in the student section, I noticed that Sam was trying to look cool by not jamming out to Party Rock Anthem, so I jokingly nudged him and told him to stop being lame. I guess this won him over because he ended up dancing and later that day he told our friend Ruxx that he thought I was cute, not knowing that I had already told Ruxx the same thing. As any good friend would do, Ruxx invited Sam & I to hang out in his dorm, where he pretended to be asleep while we all watched Jersey Shore so that Sam & I could spend the whole time getting to know each other. The rest as they say, is history.
During our years living in Happy Valley, one of our favorite things to do was explore Central Pennsylvania. One day, while exploring and getting lost in Rothrock State Forest, we stumbled upon a remarkable viewpoint that stretched for miles out into the PA countryside. We loved that spot so much that we returned there several more times over the years, even after graduating. Sam absolutely knew that this was the spot where he wanted to propose to his best friend. On Friday, October 12, 2018, after arriving in town for Homecoming Weekend, we headed up to our spot before the craziness of the weekend began. After spending an hour laughing and reminiscing about our undergrad years, Sam got down on one knee and popped the Q. Amanda unsurprisingly thought it was a prank, but she quickly realized it was real and said yes and it was the happiest moment of our lives! We spent the whole weekend, which was also Amanda’s birthday weekend, celebrating with so many of our family and friends. It was truly the best weekend of our lives.
