How We Met

As some of you may or may not know, Jacob and Emily have known each other nearly their entire lives. Their dads, Bruce and Al had became friends after Bruce moved to Rochester and attended one of Al’s parties. They became closer friends after Al’s trip to Australia back in 1986; where he stayed with Bruce in California. Their friendship grew and year after year, they held dueling parties on each coast. Once they both got married and had kids, Al, Laurie and Emily would visit for the following years during Spring breaks. Jacob happened to be away at school most of those visits, so Emily usually did not cross paths with him. Fast forward to the fall of 2017, Emily and Jacob had both finished college the previous Spring, and were on their career path ventures. Emily moved from New York to settle in California, where she always dreamt of. She moved into Josh’s room at the Hoffman house while he was away at college. After a few months of hanging out in the backyard each night after work, Jacob and Emily realized they had so many things in common: loved the same music, outdoor activities and wild adventures. Over time, they fell in love with each other. It was perfect. Of course the families were thrilled. They made things official in Puerto Vallerta, Mexico on New Years Eve of 2018. Since then, they have added two precious dogs, Izzy and Kira, to their family.

The Engagement

September 7, 2021

Jake surprised Em for her birthday with a trip to Monterey Bay, California where he played baseball and graduated from college. After driving all afternoon, with Izzy in the backseat, (before Kira's time) they arrived at the beach resort. Jake insisted they go straight to the beach, although Em wanted to go the room to relax. They walked out onto the beach, letting Izzy run off and play in the sand. When they got to a spot in front of the sand dunes, Jake turned to Em and got down on his knee to propose! Jake's parents and brother were behind the sand dunes filming the whole thing and had Em's parents on facetime. Of course Em said yes!!! As she did they heard cheers of joy from their families (mostly Huguette lol) and Bruce, Huguette Josh came down to celebrate on the beach with champagne! The weekend had just started for them all as they celebrated and explored Monterey Bay. Em couldn't have had a better birthday gift!
