We started our story together in June of 2009, after being introduced by a mutual friend the summer before. A recent graduate, Andrew still had an apartment near the University of Delaware campus - a good person to know for early-twenty-somethings who recently moved home after college. After a number of Quizzo-Night-Wednesdays at Grotto's, competitive card games and group trips to visit out-of-town friends from college, our friendship grew even stronger and slowly blossomed into a romance. As our twenties progressed and careers changed, we found ourselves living farther apart and had less and less time to spend together. It was so important to cherish every phone and FaceTime call, every short weekend visit, every hug. It was tough, but we always looked towards our end goal: becoming a family. The biggest test would be 2 years living a plane ride away from one another, while Andrew worked towards his MBA at the University of Michigan (not to mention a semester abroad in London). "How many days 'til I see you again?" would be our most uttered sentence during that time, and it seemed to creep by... Spoiler alert: we made it! And now, 10 years, 7 cities, 2 continents, 6 jobs and 1 MBA later, we begin our next chapter together. We are so thrilled to have you be a part of it!
In June 2019, Andrew announced that he wanted to "be in America's birthplace on America's birthday." Okay... Odd, but okay. Hillary acquiesced, but hoped to be back in NYC for the Phillies game that following Saturday at Citi Field. As Independence Day got closer, Andrew added that he'd like to visit the newly opened Museum of the Revolution that Saturday, along with some other landmarks around the city. You know, be "tourists" for a day. Still not out of character for the history enthusiast, and at that point Hillary was keen to the idea of skipping the outdoor game in the forecast 100 degree weather. So, on Saturday, July 6, 2019, they headed off to the Museum. Jumping out of the Uber, Andrew said, "Hey, let's take a selfie and remember this." Now, that was way out of left field... Andrew didn't take selfies. Ever. But the heat index was 106, and Hillary didn't have the energy to question anything at that point. They got through the guided tour, and next on the sight-seeing list was Love Park. After waiting about 15 minutes for a photo (to replicate one taken 5 years prior), and with the promise of a cold refreshment to come, it was finally their turn to get a quick pic under the Love Statue. One, two, three... Say "cheese!" All of a sudden, a photographer was squatting in front of them, snapping away. Andrew turned to Hillary and said, "So, there's a reason I brought you here today..." He dropped down to one knee, and Hillary's jaw dropped to the floor. A moment the two would never forget. Once the ring was on and some celebratory photos were taken, Hillary and Andrew headed to their planned dinner with Hillary's sister and her boyfriend. "I'll wait to tell Whitney before I call anyone else," thought Hillary. Little did she know, many of their friends and family would be waiting for the newly engaged couple at a nearby restaurant, ready to celebrate!
