Darrell and I met as teenagers in the youth group at First Baptist Church of Ft. Worth, but we got to know each other at swim parties that his dad and stepmom would throw at their house. We dated for a month when we were 19 and stayed friends after our relationship ended. Our lives went different ways, but our paths continued to cross at various times over the next several years at family events and church. A few years ago, I heard that Darrell was single, and I messaged him to see if the rumors were true – and they were! Darrell and I chatted through social media and text messages, but it wasn’t until February of 2024 that things changed in a big way! I made a social media post about a new flavor of Blue Bell ice cream and a few weeks later Darrell texted me blaming me for his new sweet treat addiction. And boy am I glad he did! We started texting all day, every day for weeks and those texts progressed to phone calls and then eventually FaceTime. After a trip to Texas in early May to confirm what we felt for each other was real and true, we both knew, without a shadow of a doubt, that this is the person God created us for. At the end of June, Darrell helped me move from Georgia back to Texas and on July 12, he proposed!
