Kevin and I met on September 18, 2021. Kevin was meeting some friends out for drinks for Dillon's birthday (not to be confused with his nephew, Dylan), and I was leaving a wedding I had been bartending when I got a text from Dillon inviting me to join. This was Kevin’s first outing since COVID-19, and I was exhausted from work—so neither of us expected to meet the person we’d marry five years later. After my shift, I changed clothes and headed downtown, only to find out they were already at Tiki. I went in, greeted Dillon and some familiar faces, and introduced myself to the people I didn’t know. We all ended up in the “VIP Lounge,” where Forrest Gump was playing. Kevin started quoting the movie, and I was confused—because at that point, I had never seen it. It came out in 1994, and I was born in 1993… so I guess it didn’t exactly capture my infant attention. Kevin was shocked and insisted I needed to watch the masterpiece. A little while later, he handed me his credit card and asked me to go to the bar to get drinks for the group, hoping I’d have better luck than him. While I was up there, I saw his name on the card and decided to friend request him on Facebook. After that night, we talked every day for weeks. Eventually, I invited him out to the Alley to play beer pong—and from that night on (October 2, 2021), we’ve pretty much spent every day together. We officially started dating on January 18, 2022. Since that first night, we’ve shared a lot more than just Forrest Gump quotes (although those still come up regularly). We’ve traveled together to Pennsylvania, Kentucky, North Carolina, and even Mexico—where Kevin proposed on March 30, 2025. Spoiler alert: I said yes. Our little family includes Gump and previously my very sweet Sullivan. We also genuinely enjoy spending time with each other’s families, which has made our journey even more special. From day one, everything has just felt easy, like coming home.
