Once Upon a Time Right in the middle of an ordinary life Love gave us a fairytale. Ok, maybe not quite a fairytale but a wonderful unexpected surprise to say the least. We were two of the lucky ones at the age of 30 that were able to make online dating work for us, Bumble to be exact. The app where there's a chance that one of you won't swipe right and if you are fortunate enough to match, the lady might not have the guts to initiate the conversation. Luckily for us, neither of those was the case. While it wasn't love at first sight, it was definitely laughter at first conversation. After some playful banter about Josh's Tommy Boy T-shirt in one of his pictures, we were pretty much on our way to knowing that we understood each other's humor and that conversation flowed comfortably. Something we both knew was rare for us in this day in age on dating apps. After a couple weeks of getting to know each other, we finally went on our first date. None other than Cinco De Mayo dinner (now a treasured staple in our lives) followed by a competitive game of darts. From there, the rest is pretty much history. It is worth mentioning though, as a testament to my groom, the more extended version of this story reflects how he softened this bride's heart and showed true patience in waiting 2 weeks for me to come around to my senses and not be afraid of this gift of a relationship God had blessed us with. Sometimes relationships and people seem too good to be true, but despite the skepticism we both took the leap of faith and are now thankful to be embarking on our happily ever after.
On an ordinary Sunday afternoon, we decided to to take a walk around the neighborhood. Not unusual for us, however it was odd that Josh did not want to take the puppy dogs along. Knowing that they can be a handful though, it seemed like the best plan for a more casual stroll. Until it became not so casual as Josh kept speeding up his pace. Struggling to keep up I asked Josh why he was walking so fast, and he declared that he just wanted to beat the rain. Shortly after this, we approach my favorite spot in the neighborhood that overlooks the lake, Josh started pointing and asked me, "what is that?" Unable to see much, I guessed he was referring to some trash. Then he pulled me over and I could see what appeared to be tealight candles that had been flipped over. With a disappointed look on his face, Josh came clean that he had faked going for milk earlier and had really driven to this spot and lit the candles. Unfortunately for us though, we had some concerned neighbors that appeared to have blown them out and flipped them over. Just as Josh gets through this story there is a loud car driving by us and sprinkles of rain begin to fall. Determined not to be defeated though, Josh dropped down on 1 knee, apologized that things had not gone to plan and told me I was the love of his life and didn't want to wait any longer then proposed to me. With tears in my eyes and raindrops falling on my head, I happily accepted and I wouldn't change our awkard proposal story for anything. It was authentic, it was off script and 100% representative of our unique relationship.
