How We Met

IT GOES DOWN IN THE DMs

Francis' Version: It went down in the DM's. I saw on my Instagram post that this beautiful woman by the name of Tolulope Ojo liked one of my pictures. So, I decided to go on her page and explore. I went through her page and was mesmerized by how gorgeous she was. At that time, you couldn't send a direct message on Instagram, so I had to leave a message on her picture. I said hello to her, and she said hello back. I asked her if she had Instagram chat, and she said no, she did not. We left it at that for a couple of weeks. I still kept thinking about her and wanted to know more about my future wife. At that time, most people had a Twitter account, so I decided to search for her name. To my surprise, her name popped up. I sent her a direct message on Twitter and asked her on a date. Thank God I did because she told me she was about to delete her account on that same day. God's timing is always right. Tolu's Version: Let's just say, social media brought us together. While all my friends were active on social media, I avoided it because I wanted to focus on school. I was in my second year of university at the time. Someway, somehow, I was convinced to download Instagram and Twitter, and guess what? That's how I found my love. The funny thing is, I didn't know how to use Instagram. I came across Francis' page and noticed a newspaper article he posted about the work he did in his community, which I thought was admirable. I liked that post, and then I started to scroll. I started 'liking' a bunch of his photos. I didn't know at the time that that was how you get a person's attention. A few minutes later, after liking most of his photos, I received a notification about a comment left on one of my photos. Back then, direct messaging did not exist, so he was publicly dropping "I want to get to know you hints on my photos." A few weeks later, he followed me on Twitter. There, we were able to send private messages. He asked to visit me on campus, and I was shocked that he was willing to drive hours out of the city just to see me. The day we agreed to meet, there was a terrible snowstorm, and he was still adamant about driving to see me. I remember thinking, "Wow, this guy is committed!" He made it safely to me, and we grabbed dinner. Fast forward 9+ years later, we're ready to tie the knot and commit to forever.
