The iconic extinct volcano in the center of town. You can visit the park, or take up the approximately 45 minute moderate hike to the top of Arthur's seat, where you'll be treated to beautiful views of Edinburgh and beyond.
Edinburgh Zoo is a gateway to the natural world where people can experience nature, learn about the challenges facing wildlife and discover how we are working to save animals from extinction. The zoo is also conveniently located beside the Holiday Inn Edinburgh. If you have kids, we definitely recommend spending an afternoon with the penguins!

Newly renovated art gallery next to the beautiful Princes Street Gardens. One of four National Galleries in Edinburgh, the others being Modern 1, Modern 2 and the National Portrait Museum, all free admission.
A favourite day trip of ours, start your afternoon at Dean Village, walking along the Water of Leith towards Stockbridge, where you can enjoy a great variety of local shops, cafes and restaurants.
Classic, rugged Scotland.
The first place in the Highlands we visited as a couple. Beautiful views of the Cairngorm mountains, and great for hikes and outdoor sport. Easily accessed by train (to Aviemore) and bus.
A beautiful and secluded Glen near Loch Ness. A bit off the beaten path, and only accessible by car, but well worth the views.
Another great era for hiking and a classic tourist spot. Most bus tours in and around the west highlands will go through Glencoe.
For your Harry Potter fix. Be sure to check the timetable for the steam train.
A lovely seaside town with great seafood and a whiskey distillery, easily accessed by train via Glasgow. Also a hub for ferry travel further along to the Isle of Mull or the Outer Hebrides.
A great day trip, you can visit the iconic Old Course, St. Andrews University, take a walk along the beach, explore the old town and visit the ruins of St. Andrews Castle and Cathedral. Accesible by bus directly from Edinburgh, or a train to Leuchars station and a bus in to town.
Famous summer residence of the royal family, you can tour the grounds but be sure to check when the grounds are open.
