FAQs

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

We're calling it tropical formal. Men - think linen suits (jackets please!). Women - think tropical colors, floor length dresses. We encourage you to go all out! No shorts or jeans.

Question

Any Tips?

Answer

1) For our accident prone guests (ahem... Tegan), please know that the humidity makes some areas of the floor very slick. Non-slip shoes (and a bit of grace) are a must. 2) The menus have the same item written in English and Spanish, but the design makes it look like separate items (So before you butcher the pronunciation of that fun new dish like we did, maybe just look above or below it.) 3) One of the reasons we chose this resort is the abundance of wildlife! There are so many birds, small lizards, iguanas, and coatis (like a Mexican racoon). They're very fun to see but please give them their space and do not feed them. 4) In your room there is an iPad with a bunch of customizations you can make to your stay (hello custom bath bombs and a multiple pillow choices). Please know, they will bring things as soon as you request them (so maybe don't order aromatherapy at midnight like Kelsey did). 5) At least one person in your party will need to download WhatsApp (it's free - Ashley will have instructions on your pre-travel email). It is how most of Mexico communicates. Your concierge will ask for your WhatsApp number to message you about happenings for the day and help coordinate any reservations etc. for you. 6) Just because you're in a rush, does not mean any one else is. Everyone is on island time (even if it is just the coast)! We hope you aren't rushing around anywhere this trip, but if you do have somewhere to be, plan a time cushion of around 45 minutes to be safe. Rather than fight it, soak in the long meal times and enjoy your time to take things slow! Easy, breezy, beautiful. 7) The lobby ATM is a bit of a menace. It's not intuitive - your card goes in sideways and the primary language is Spanish. Just breathe!

Question

Should I make dinner reservations before I get there?

Answer

Yes! You should get an email 30 days out from the resort asking about reservations. We highly recommend making your dinner reservations as the popular times at the specialty restaurants (Avec [French], Mura House [Asian], Mi Carisa [Italian], Cueva Siete [Mexican]) go quickly. Avec and Mura House get booked up first! If you forget, there's always room service, the pizza bar, the pool bar, and 2087 Restaurant. People have been reporting the problems with the UNICO app, so we believe email or phone is easier!

Question

Do I Need to Tip?

Answer

Everyone likes to say tips are optional... but it sure doesn't feel like it. You should plan on tipping just about everyone if you don't want to make it awkward. Definitely have some on hand for when you land to tip your driver and bellhops. Drivers: $5 pp (more if driving private) Bell staff: $1–2 per bag Housekeeping: $5–10/day Servers/bartenders: $1–2 per drink USD is fine, but pesos are often easier for staff to use. Think 50 pesos is about $3.

Question

Do I actually need to confirm my transportation back to the airport?

Answer

Yes! Airport transportation is not as on demand as it is here. Do yourself a favor and call once you get to the resort with your return flight info and set it up before you forget. You will need a minimum of 24 hours before your return flight. They will assign you a time for pickup for your departure date (Yes, it will be significantly earlier than you think it should be - but hey, you won't be late for your flight). Go to the lobby 20 minutes before your pickup time and check out with the hotel staff. They will give you a check-out pass which you will need to show to your transportation person. No check out pass - no ride, so please plan ahead!

Question

I just landed. Now what?

Answer

As soon as you exit the plan, you'll be herded through the customs line. Have your hat off and your passport ready. They'll ask what resort your staying at and stamp your passport. From there, pick up any checked luggage. If you have nothing to declare (most people don't - Google if you're unsure), you'll walk through a dog sniff area and out the door. Walk directly through all the people trying to sell you things, outside to Lomas Travel (Teal shirts and white pants). One of their staff will walk you to their bus and hop on. The drive is approximately an hour depending on traffic. Tip your driver (recommended $5-10 USD/ 150 pesos) and enter the lobby. A bellhop will grab your bags from the car while you check in. They'll come by with a cocktail (per Nate, take the damn cocktail!) and a cold towelette while you wait! The process is three steps. Your concierge will want your What'sApp number so they can text you about reservations and things to do everyday. You'll also be able to message them to ask any questions or make reservations. From there, the bellhop will walk you to your room with your bags. Tip the bellhop (recommended $1-2 USD/ 50 pesos) per bag and settle in! Don't forget to call to confirm your return transportation to the airport! We'll see you at the bar!

Question

What happened to Costa Rica?

Answer

Dreams Las Mareas is closing this June and cancelled all reservations and weddings. Unfortunately, this impacted our plans. However, we are rerouting to Mexico at the gorgeous UNICO 20°87° in Riviera Maya. Due to availability, we had to move the wedding one week later to April 18th, 2026. Thank you for your patience with the change in details!
