The options for hiking in and around the greater Bishop region are almost too many to list. From mellow trails around town to soaring vistas along the Sierras, the paths abound to the casual enthusiast or avid adventurer. Don't forget your fishing rod! Tyee Lakes Trail - 7 miles out and back; many lake views, moderate (go all the way to Table Mountain for a harder challenge with better views) Grass Lake Trail - 2 miles out and back; easy Blue Lake - 5 miles out and back; moderate Bishop Pass - 10 miles out and back; hard Chocolate Lakes Loop - 7.4 miles loop (or just stop at long lake) Several more in the Bishop Creek area, or head up to Mammoth Lakes for even more options
BIshop is the perfect basecamp for visitors planning a day trip to Yosemite, as the eastern entrance to the park is an easy 60-minute drive from the town of Bishop, with an additional 1.5-hour drive into Yosemite Valley. Driving over Tioga Road (HWY 120) you'll see many photo-worthy sites along the way, including Tuolumne Meadows, Tenaya Lake and Olmstead Point during the beautiful forested drive.
The majesty of Reds Meadow, Devils Postpile National Monument, Rainbow Falls and other beautiful sites along the middle fork of the San Joaquin River valley lie just over the shoulder of Mammoth Mountain – a perfect area for hiking, fishing and more. All visitors must ride the Reds Meadow Shuttle for access to this region – tickets available for purchase at the Adventure Center.
