They always say that you meet "the one" in the place where you least expect it. Well back in 2013 "Musings of Random Mind" and "Thoughts That Go Thump in the Night" started to realize how much their blogs, and they themselves, had in common. We would share stories of two separate camps that were same at the heart of their cultures. We would be up to all hours laughing at puns and memes that only math majors would understand or appreciate. We talked about the love of the outdoors and reminisce about past hiking and camping trips. This Venn Diagram of our lives even found intersections in Jenna’s choral and theatrical extracurriculars and Matt’s tuba playing on the stage and the field.
Fast forward past the semi-monthly visits, hiking trips, skype dates, visits to each other’s camp, and so much more and we landed in the most magical place on earth. Leading up to our Disney trip, Jenna was starting to get suspicious and asked Matt if he was planning on proposing while surrounded by Mickey ears. Matt’s simple response was that it would be cliché to do so, he did not say yes nor no as to avoid a lie. Little did Jenna know he had spent the past months picking out the perfect ring and even ring box to culminate their past five years together, and even employing the help of a few friends (Lizzie and Ryan) who would be accompanying them.
The 24 hours leading up to Matt popping the question were filled with twists and turns. The TARDIS shaped ring box almost did not arrive in time. While going through airport security, with the ring hidden in his camera bag, Matt was checked more thoroughly by TSA. As soon as we got off the plane in Florida, we were almost given a rental car that was far too small for four adults and their luggage for a week away. Our original Airbnb rental was inaccessible, and the hosts were unreachable. Yet as soon as we got to the Magic Kingdom everything started to come together. The four of us ran to Space Mountain to try to use our early morning Fast Pass, but it was closed temporarily. So we caught our breath and leisurely walked back to Cinderella Castle for some “We made it to Disney” photos. Matt took a few photos of Lizzie and Ryan while he collected himself before dropping to one knee. He handed his camera to Ryan as Lizzie wielded her phone to capture the magic. Matt got the TARDIS from his camera bag and walked to where Jenna was standing clueless about how everything was about to change. As soon as Matt went down on one knee Jenna instantly exclaimed, “You said you weren’t going to do this!” when in actuality Matt merely said it would be a cliché, which after five and a half years she should have known was perfectly aligned with his expressions of romance. Thankfully, once the too snug ring sizer was off and ring was on her finger Jenna said “Yes!”
