It all started with a right swipe on Tinder — proof that sometimes, love really can be just a tap away. On March 9th, Caitlin came across Shayne’s profile on Tinder. She thought it looked familiar and then realized she had seen him on another dating app and chose not to match with him because his hair was a little too long in one of his pics. Fortunately, he popped up again and this time had a bio that expressed similar interests so Caitlin decided to overlook the long hair… and thank goodness she did. On March 16th, Caitlin and Shayne went out on their first date. Shayne had plans to look at a truck in Columbia and had suggested to Caitlin that when he was done maybe they could meet up. What Shayne didn’t realize is that to Caitlin, that meant a date had been planned. Caitlin sat at her house all day ready to go, just waiting to hear that Shayne was done at the dealership. Several hours later, Shayne texted Caitlin non-chalantly asking her if she “wanted to hang out.” Caitlin, who had thought there was a definite date already planned, said yes. Little did Shayne know, that was the first time of many that Cailtin’s type A personality would shine. After their first date, Caitlin was instantly excited to see where things might go. She tried to play it cool by not texting too much, but was anxiously hoping Shayne felt the same spark. Luckily, he did and on March 30th, he planned to ask her to be his girlfriend. Shayne had every intention of making the question smooth and charming… but nerves kicked in at the last second and what came out instead was: “I’m not asking you to marry me or anything, but will you be my girlfriend?” Caitlin, of course, teased him back with, “Oh, I’m only good enough to be a permanent girlfriend?” And just like that, their relationship began. One of Caitlin’s favorite things about Shayne is his ability to make her laugh. Caitlin never thought she’d find someone with the same sense of humor as her or be able to be as comfortable around someone as she is with Shayne. Caitlin loves to tell Shayne that he made her weird, when in reality, she just found someone that she is not afraid to be herself around. Shayne also loves Caitlin’s sense of humor - the two of them bonding early over Netflix shows that made them laugh til they cried. Shayne loves Caitlin’s drive and the fact that she is a hard worker. He couldn’t imagine someone more perfect to spend the rest of his life with. When Shayne was thinking of proposing to Caitlin, he wanted it to be something special and preferably somewhere that Caitlin hadn’t been before. Shayne had briefly attended WVU and had always wanted to show Caitlin around campus and the surrounding mountainous landscape. Caitlin can be pretty hard to surprise as there has to be a plan for everything (que the type A personality again), so they planned a trip to go to West Virginia for a football game. While there, he found the perfect spot to ask the big question. Similar to when he asked her to be his girlfriend, the proposal didn’t come out perfectly smooth, but it was perfect to them. Caitlin and Shayne couldn't be more excited for this next chapter of life and to have y’all celebrate with them!
