Getting to SAYULITA

Sayulita is easily accessible by flying into the Puerto Vallarta International Airport. It is about 24 miles north of the airport and the trip takes 40-90 minutes, but usually around an hour, depending on your mode of travel. We are more than willing to meet up with you at the airport when you arrive to go to Sayulita if you have any apprehension.

Rental Cars

Many of the major car rental agencies are available at Puerto Vallarta Airport, on or near the airport. In addition, a smaller one named Gecko is located in Bucerias – we’ve heard good things about this one and I think they will deliver the car to the airport – Phone number is: 011-52-329 298 0339 from the U.S. And the website: http://www.geckorentcar.com. We recommend making these arrangements before you arrive online.

Shuttle:

http://sayulitalife.com/ramos-taxi. For about $140 ROUND TRIP they will pick you up at the airport, stop at the big MEGA grocery store so you can shop a bit, and then bring you here. At the end of your stay they will take you back to the airport.

Taxi at the Airport

The prices to Sayulita can fluctuate, but the last I heard it was about $600 pesos one way if you get a taxi inside the airport. If you walk across the pedestrian bridge and get a taxi on the other side of the highway, it can be much less. If they ask for more, suggest 600. When you emerge into the lobby of the airport after going through customs, follow the stream of people turning to the right and step outside. There are taxis there. See the signs that say TAXI? Go there or accept one of the many offers you will get on the way there. Get your PESOS at the ATM first if you need some (by turning right and doubling back inside the terminal), use the bathroom, and then go back to the Taxi signs.

Bus:

The bus to Sayulita costs around 30 pesos (under $2.00 usd) and is a perfectly fun way of arriving in town. This is not a tourist bus, and it’s not an “airport bus”. This is just the local bus that everybody uses to go everywhere in the area. You don’t need (and can’t get) a reservation. There is no reliable published schedule, but it comes along about every 20 minutes or so. You need to be prepared to handle all your own luggage the entire time (they don’t put it below), and you may have to stand some of the time.

How to catch the bus:

When you exit the airport get your PESOS at the ATM first if you need some (by turning to the right and doubling back inside the terminal), use the bathroom, change your clothes if you’re overdressed, and then exit those doors. Take the pedestrian ramp across the highway and continue walking a little further until you notice a bus stop (less than 150 feet, possibly less than 50). Stand there and watch for a bus that has SAYULITA (and other things) written on the front window in something that looks like white shoe polish or other sign. Don’t take a bus that doesn’t say SAYULITA on the front ~ even if the driver says it goes to Sayulita (they might drop you at the entrance to Sayulita and you’d have to walk 1.5 miles or so to the plaza). There could be up to 30 minutes wait, but usually not that much.
