After my mom (Kay) and Lily’s aunt (Nitza) had one of their monthly lunches, they decided Lily and I were a perfect match. It took some time for us to actually get in contact. Soon after we began to get to know each other via phone calls and video chats. One day we realized we both ‘happened’ to be going to Seattle for work/school trips and our trips overlapped by 2 and a half days. It seemed like a lucky coincidence at first, however, we quickly realized that it was much more than coincidence. We spent that time getting to know each other, exploring the city, and left with plans to meet up again in Goshen for Thanksgiving. I went home from Seattle knowing that she was the woman I was going to spend the rest of my life with, even though Lily was much slower to warm up to the reality! Destiny has willed us together and we are consistently reminded that God created us for one another. -Hans
After spending more than 90 days in COVID-19 quarantine with Hans and his family, it was time to celebrate my birthday. We decided to celebrate my birthday on Sunday, June 14th instead of June 17th my actual birthday because of work/school responsibilities. Hans decided to design a scavenger hunt which started at 8 am with my favorite breakfast + coffee in bed. The scavenger hunt took us all over Goshen, IN. We did a bunch of our favorite things, picnics, long walks, flowers, loving on our pets, eating our favorite foods, and ended on a pontoon boat ride on the Elkhart River. We rode down the river as the sun was beginning to set and enjoyed the solitude and beauty of nature. Hans then gave me the last clue which read "This last clue doesn't have a hint, it is only a question" I turned to see Hans down on one knee with a box and he asked me to be his wife. We held each other tight from pure joy and overwhelming emotion, I said yes (easy decision!). Our families were highly involved in the whole process and we celebrated back at the Bontrager-Singer house with my favorite meal Ropa Vieja and a family zoom party. =] - Lily
