The Sangeet (pronounced sun-geeth) night represents a unity of our two families and will be an evening of (Indian) food, laughter, and dancing. We will also have mehndi (henna) available for those who would like to participate.
The baraat (pronounced buh-roth) is the groom's procession to the wedding ceremony on a white horse accompanied by a dhol (Indian drum) and lots of dancing. All are welcome!
For the Sangeet/Mehndi night (Saturday), many guests will be wearing traditional Indian attire. We recommend Indian attire if you have it, or something colorful! For the Baraat/Ceremony/Reception (Sunday), we would suggest traditional American wedding attire, though many guests will be wearing traditional Indian clothing. If you are interested in wearing Indian clothing, please reach out to us as we may have something you can borrow! Otherwise, these websites provide great options: www.utsavfashion.com/ www.saree.com www.cbazaar.com www.borrowitbindaas.com/apparels/designer (Think Rent the Runway- but Indian) We recommend kurtas for men and lehengas or salwar kameezes for women.
It is a 35-minute drive from MSP airport to Oak Ridge Hotel and is around a $35 Lyft or Uber fare. It is probably about $35/day to rent a car at MSP airport. The wedding festivities will all be at the hotel but if you want to explore the city, you might want a car. The hotel has a complementary shuttle that will take you to attractions within a 5-mile radius.
