How We Met

We have no idea! Nathan's sister, Tyler, was a Chi Omega along with Hannah, and Hannah was great friends with Nathan's little brother in the Phi Gamma Delta fraternity, Seth. Tyler is now Hannah's Maid of Honor, and Seth is Nathan's Best Man. We had tons of mutual friends and have early memories of each other, but we have no idea when we met each other. Thank the Lord we did!

Our First Date

Hannah's Side of the Story

Nathan asked me to go on a real date, and I was very nervous! I wasn't quite sure if I liked him yet, but I knew that he was a really great guy. It was my sophomore year of college, and I lived in Hathorn Hall, the sorority dorm. Because my dorm room was near the end of the hall, I would have to walk past so many of my Chi Omega sisters to get out of the building. I was in my nice top, skirt, and wedges rather than the typical big t-shirt and athletic shorts, so I didn't want anyone to ask me, “Where are you going?” I had my friend and now bridesmaid, Kylie, pretend to be on the phone with me as a scurried out of the building. As soon as I got in the car with Nathan, all the nerves went away. Needless to say, our date at the Central Station Grill was perfect! He took me there because he knew I loved Salmon, and they have some of the best Salmon in town. The rest was history!

Our First Date

Nathan's Side of the Story

I don’t remember the specifics of asking Hannah on our first date, but what I do know is that through extensive conversation on our first date I knew that I wanted to pursue this girl because our core values align so well. She reminded me so much of my mom, and I was always told that you need to marry someone like your mom. To this day I remember that she was wearing a floral tank top, blue jean skirt, and wedges. I thought afterward that I wanted to get to know this girl more.

The Proposal

Hannah's Side of the Story

Every Friday night before a Mississippi State University football when Nathan’s parents are in town, we go to eat dinner at Harvey's. Nathan flew in from Florida to come to visit for the weekend and go to the homecoming football game, so of course, I knew that we were going to eat at Harvey's. Nathan suggests that we go to North Farm before dinner because it is our favorite place to watch the sunset. When we pulled up, there was a beautiful set up with photos of us and roses. We talked about all of the memories associated with each photo, Nathan read me some bible verses from a bible that had "Hannah Oliver McMurray" engraved on the front, and then he asked me to marry him! I said, "yes!" I cried happy tears, we took photos, drank champagne, then I was ready to eat at Harvey's. We stopped by Nathan's parent's condo before "dinner," and I was completely surprised that all of our friends and family were there to celebrate with us! While I never got my Harvey's, it was one of the best days ever.

The Proposal

Nathan's Side of the Story

After about two years of dating Hannah, I decided it was time to start looking for a ring. I knew I loved her, and I knew that I wanted to marry her. I wanted the ring to be perfect. My sister, Tyler, helped me a lot with the whole process. She introduced me to Mrs. LaNelle at Lynbar Jewelers, who help me design a custom ring for Hannah. I am working in Florida, so actually finding a way to get to Greenwood, MS to pick up the ring, without Hannah finding out, was a struggle. She thought I was coming into town on Friday night to watch the football game that weekend, but I actually flew in on Thursday. We drove Friday morning to Greenwood to pick up the ring, and it was perfect. I knew she would say, "yes," but I was super nervous because this is one of the best and biggest decisions of my life so far! I took Hannah out to our favorite place to watch the sunset, North Farm, and I couldn't have asked for anything to go more perfectly. The weather was beautiful, Hannah looked gorgeous, and she said, "yes!"
