Forrest and I met the old fashioned way. Bumble. To this day neither of us can tell you why we swiped right on each other except even through the phone the chemistry was there. We met up at a local bar on February 1, 2023. We quickly killed a bottle of wine talking about music, our upbringings, how he has a black lab (green flag!), and then we ordered another bottle of wine. I even texted a friend that night telling her I met the man I was going to marry. Manifest it, ladies! At the end of the night, our heads fuzzy and swimming from all the wine, I mentioned how I was going to stop and get some food on the way home because I didn’t eat dinner. Forrest said he didn’t eat either and let’s get something together. He told me to name a few places, and the first thing that popped into my mind was…Waffle House. Because every slightly wine buzzed person needs Waffle House, and it was a 3 minute drive from the bar. That was all he needed to hear before ushering me into his truck to take me around the corner to get me an All Star Special. We spent the next 2 hours at Waffle House talking about books. Nerds. By the time midnight rolled around and the date wrapped up we had already made plans for a second date. It’s been a wild, dream-filled ride ever since! And, yes, we still eat at Waffle House all the time and laugh about how that first date really set the tone for our relationship in the best way possible.
