Our Story

August 25, 2012

Our story started in 8th grade at Kettle Moraine Middle School in Dousman, Wisconsin. We became friends and exchanged cell phone numbers at a time when we were calling each other "Hubby" and "Wifey" in 2008. We had the classic "thing" at the end of the year, which led to my youngest sister, a 6th grader, writing in Austin's yearbook "You and Hannah are meant to be your baby's last name will be Freejorg boo ya your soon to be younger sis" (see photo). In 2009, we got married on Facebook. Although we were not officially dating, we remained good friends throughout high school and continued crushing on each other until our Junior year came around. On August 25th, 2012, we decided to make it official. In August 2013, we went to Young Life Beyond Malibu on the coast of British Columbia before parting ways to attend different colleges. The spiritual and physical six day summit was when Austin realized I was the one. After four years of long distance between Des Moines and Minneapolis, we thought we would be in the same city after graduation. Career paths took us in different directions and we continued our long distance relationship between Minneapolis and Chicago, and after five years, finally ended up in the same city again. Now, after twelve years of knowing each other and seven years of dating, we are fully committing to the leap and officially becoming "Austin My Hubby" and "Hannah My Wifey" for real.

The Proposal

Mount Kilimanjaro

At the end of 2018, we decided to make one of our dreams a reality and summit Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania. Little did I know, Austin had another plan beyond the seven day trek, safari, and day in Dubai. In June, we arrived at base camp and began our trek up the mountain. After five days of hiking, we started our 11 pm summit push in complete darkness and reached the highest point in Africa at 6:55 am. Standing on the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, we took photos with the rising sun, surrounded by mountains, the glacier, friends, and an amazing feeling of accomplishment. Right then and there, on July 6th, Austin got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
