While you're in Portland here are some things to check out!
Alberta Street. Xavier grew up right off Alberta. There are many tasty eats and art galleries to explore. If you like chicken wings, hit up Jack's (Alberta Street Market). Bar Cala is a Latin cocktail bar that is family friendly with a cute patio if the sun is shining.
Mississippi Street. Another great area for eating and walking. Porque No is a Portland staple. They specialize in tacos and margaritas.
Division Street. We love Cibo, an italian restaurant for dinner. And Loretta Jeans or Salt & Straw for dessert.
If it's a clear day and you feel like walking, we recommend going to Powell Butte - you can see all the mountains.
