FAQs

Question

When should I RSVP by?

Answer

Please RSVP by September 1st!

Question

Are kids welcome?

Answer

Many children have been invited and we very much hope they join us! We will do our best to ensure there are ample quiet spots and plenty of entertainment, but please let us know if there's anything we can do to help them (and their parents) have a great time! We recognize that many of our younger guests may struggle with the "sitting in silence" portion of the ceremony, and encourage them to move around as needed.

Question

I have a food allergy, can I make a special request?

Answer

Yes, please do so on your RSVP!

Question

Is there parking for the ceremony or reception?

Answer

There is a parking lot adjacent to the venue, which should have ample space. You can also use the Yellow Taxi app or the 48 bus to get to the venue, which are great alternatives to driving!

Question

What will the ceremony be like?

Answer

We will be having a Quaker ceremony. We will all enter and sit in silence. Once all have gathered, a Quaker elder will stand and explain how things will proceed, for those who haven’t read this webpage. We will settle into silent worship. Out of the silence, Hannah and Sophie will exchange vows, thereby marrying each other. After the vows, anyone in attendance may stand up and share a message if moved to do so, including (but not limited to) reflections, prayers, songs, and quotations. The message may be about marriage in general or about Hannah and Sophie in particular. It may contain personal memories of the couple or be about the speaker’s own marriage. It may contain well-wishes, thoughtful reflection, poetry, or song. What is appropriate is limited only by the leadings of the speaker. No one should come to a Quaker meeting convinced they will or will not share something with those gathered. After silent reflection, the Quaker wedding certificate is read and signed by Hannah and Sophie. Over the course of the evening, all who have gathered should make sure to sign it, as it will be framed and hung in our home. Following the signing, an elder shakes the hand of the person next to him or her. We all then exchange handshakes, hugs, or kisses, and proceed onwards to the food and the dancing.

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Our best description of the vibe so far is the Vampire Weekend album Contra. Definitely lean into fun colors and most importantly bring layers so you can comfortably be outside!
