The dress code for our wedding is cocktail attire. A jacket and tie in any color is suggested. A midi- or ankle-length dress or dressy separates are also welcome. PLEASE NOTE that the paths at our ceremony location are rough and rocky. High heels and open-toed shoes are not recommended.
Please arrive at camp by 2:15pm to ensure you have enough time to travel to the island. Unfortunately, our ceremony venue is not wheelchair accessible. Wilderness Canoe Base is located on an island at the end of the Gunflint Trail, 54 miles from Grand Marais, and takes roughly an hour and a half to drive. Once you pass signs for Seagull Outfitters and the Chik-Wauk museum, start looking for the WCB sign on the left side of the road. It will be marked with festive balloons. Parking info: There is a large parking clearing at the end of a half-mile driveway. If you have members who have a harder time walking, you can drive them up to the lake before parking in the clearing. Once parked, you will walk to the lake down the road that continues in the same direction that you drove in. It is HIGHLY recommended that you carpool with other guests in order to reduce the number of cars driving down the trail and parking in the lot. Getting to the island: Once at the lake, you will travel by boat to Dominion island. You will have the choice of traveling to the island in a large, 16 person canoe, or by pontoon.
Due to the remote location of the ceremony, there is not cell service coverage. Cell service is usually lost within the first 15 minutes of the drive down the Gunflint Trail from Grand Marais. There will be cell service coverage at the reception location in the town of Grand Marais.
Yes! We are happy to share this day with ALL of our friends and family, including little ones.
While August on the North Shore is typically sunny, we recommend bringing a rain jacket and/or umbrella just in case. The ceremony space is covered, but the boat ride to the island and path to the Chapel will not be. The reception site is indoors and will not be affected by any weather.
While the bugs have generally started to die down by August, we recommend bringing bug spray if you are particularly susceptible.
