I met Hannah, a student in Discipleship Training School, on the day I came back on staff at YWAM Pittsburgh almost three years ago. Our first real interaction was when I got paired with her to do evangelism on Pitt's campus. I remember immediately thinking, 'I'm nervous enough already, why did they have to pair me with the girl with the pretty hazel eyes?' I was annoyed. The next five months involved a lot of me avoiding her because I was trying to focus, you know what I mean? Then she came back on staff, and we barely talked at all for 3 months - I was on a trip that summer, and I was still trying to keep her off my mind. She was on my mind anyway, those dang hazel eyes. Then, one night at the end of summer, we spontaneously decided to hang out after some group plans fell through. We went to the Point, then to the Overlook, and then I realized this was really something God was bringing about. So I called her dad. We went on our first date (to church and a museum) on August 25th, 2017, and it has been the greatest adventure of my life ever since!
New York City had always been a dream of mine and that late winter I just wasn't letting it go. Matt had just got back from an overseas trip from Africa and naturally, I was hoping he'd ask the question as soon as he stepped onto American soil. Fortunately, he waited. Because now Valentine's Day will never be the same to me. It all started with a very conspicuous plan to take me to NYC on V-Day accompannied by two of our bff's - Josh & Mal. Dumbly, I thought I was planting major seeds in my fiance's head about taking a trip to the big city...you know, casually trying to set up my own enagement. Gratefully Matthew did it his own way - which turned out the best way obvi. He told me we weren't able to go on any kind of vacation any time soon for good reasons so I believed him. But then Wednesday night he pretended to get a call from a friend of ours in New York and said the trip was on. I breathlessly called Mal up and she (pretended) to be shocked. So we left that Thursday and I had a great nap on the 7 hour drive upstate. We arrived that night at our friend's house. I was just BEAMING the entire and I mean ENTIRE time. Chris (our friend) took us out to dinner and Mal and I lost our minds - literally we are all kinds of crazy when together. Then had the best sleep over. Woke up early for a dream come true. A mini couple shoot in Brooklyn. Coffee. A walk over the bridge. Shake Shack. Grand Central Station. Lots of blisters. Cereal Milk ice cream. TIFFANY'S. Interrupted by the groans of my friends wanting to leave all the sparkle and charm of Tiffany's we started on our walk back to our car.. I got to admit, I was a tad annoyed having to leave NYC so soon but then we walked on the Brooklyn Bridge. And you know the rest. He asked me. I was in complete shock. I yelled "ARE YOU SERIOUS NOO STOP". Don't ask me why. It was the nerves and utter disbelief. I said yes. Random people took pics. I cried...ALOT. and now we're here!!! <3
