Our Story

A few years ago i was at a friends house, making a birthday dinner. The friends told me that a friend from high school was coming over, i continued cooking. About 20 minutes later their back door opened and a guy walked in and absolutely scared me! It was Jose. He apologized and asked me my name i introduced myself, so did he and he looked at what i was cooking (enchiladas) and jokingly said “you sure you know what you’re doing there?” I looked and him laughed and said “well I’m Spanish but my family is from Mexico so i would hope so” with an eye roll. “Okay i guess I’ll be the judge of that!” I continued to cook while he talked and joked with friends, i asked if anyone wanted a drink and he asked me if he could make me a drink, “I don’t let men make me drinks sorry” i said. “I mean you can watch me make it not like i just carry roofies on me” Jose said. “No, it’s not that, they just never make them strong enough!” I joked back. As the night went on we talked and joked, I served him a plate when the food was ready and he was eating it while we talked, he finished his food, sighed, and looked at me and said “Yup! I’m gonna marry you one day. That was the best enchiladas i ever had!” I laughed and rolled my eyes shaking my head. We talked for a few more hours and he left and we all went to bed. He sent me a friend request the next day and we would occasionally chat and send memes. We would see each other at the park in my friends neighborhood and sit and talk while we watched the kids play, walked to see Christmas lights together, went to the Palm Springs Christmas parade together and over time we became close friends talking almost daily but i was seeing someone else so we never really went beyond that. After that person and I broke up we started talking again, i was no longer friends with that person in his neighborhood so we didn’t see each other very much anymore and one day I was having a rough day and asked if he wanted to come over and hang out with me and the kids and my best friends, eventually we were hanging out 2-3 times a week and about 2 weeks in i realized I had developed feelings for him, i asked him to come over so we could talk and i told him and from there, well as cheesy as it sounds, the rest is history!

Our Engagement Story

10/31/2023

In early October he wanted to look at rings we were preparing for Iris to come so we decided to get something on the cheaper side temporarily because it just made more sense in the moment. I picked the ring and it was even on sale so we were like “hey a win is a win” he put it in the cart and said he’d buy it when he got the chance and i was just like okay no rush. Fast forward, It was Halloween we got back from taking the kids trick or treating and decided to drive out to the middle of no where with some snacks and watch a scary movie (scary movies are our thing we had/have a tradition of going every month on the 14th or around it and watching whatever the cheesiest scary movie they have out is, or one we wanna see ect) we drove out to the area we planned on, the same area we parked at after our first date. We started watching Jigsaw. About halfway through he asked me if i wanted to step out and get some fresh air look at the stars ect i said sure. We stepped out and were pointing out constellations and he pointed to a star and was saying it was the North Star and me being the Astronomy enthusiast (and argumentative Aries i am lol) started arguing about how that wasn’t it and pulled out my compass on my phone full blown ADHD babbling facts about how the North Star isn’t technically ALWAYS exactly north and in line with the earths axis blah blah blah….then i realized how quiet he was and turned around….there he was on one knee in the dirt with the ring (and a light up box lol) asking me to marry him it went like this: Me: *turns around* “so ya see on my compass shithead that’s not the north—😧 Jose: Will you make me the happiest man on earth and spend the rest of our lives annoying each other? Me:JOSE….oh my god under the stars???!!! That’s so gay!!!! *bawling/laughing* Nahh I’m good!! Jose: Alright sounds good *pretends to put the ring away* Me: No wait!!! DUH ITS A YES! And we proceeded to both cry as he put the ring on my shaky ass hand and he hugged me ❤️ (I know my response sounds sooo bitchy but that’s just our love language and the way we are with each other lol)
