The Story of Zippy and Banana

FROM BAR BANTER TO BEST FRIENDS

Jon and Hannah’s love story began at the Blind Pig Pub. Hannah was the no-nonsense bartender. Jon was the overly confident customer with a talent for being mildly annoying. She thought he was entitled. He thought she was way too serious about the rules (especially the “no free drinks” one). There were more eye-rolls than sparks in the beginning. Despite the tension (or maybe because of it), Jon decided Hannah was too cute to avoid and began a relentless — and wildly unproductive — flirting campaign. He even proposed to her at the bar a few times with rings made out of dollar bills. She had a boyfriend at the time and told him it would never happen. Jon had zero shame and continued to flirt with Hannah, which she is very thankful for now. Somehow, between the banter, sarcasm, and drink orders, they became friends. They grabbed lunch between classes, teamed up for food nights with friends, and bonded over their shared love of cooking and teenage angst music. Hannah helped Jon with his handyman projects — mostly because he didn’t own a drill, and still doesn’t. Eventually, Hannah became single, and Jon finally decided to "shoot his shot". But even then, they tried to keep their distance, thinking they wanted different things in life. Despite their best efforts, they couldn’t stay away from each other or stop thinking about one another. They realized what they had was something way too good to walk away from, at least until Jon freaked out and broke up with Hannah. He ended things not once, not twice, but three different times throughout the first two years of dating. Jon didn't walk away because he didn't love Hannah, but rather because he loved her too much and it scared him. Every time he walked away, he regretted his decision about 5 minutes later. In his own words, he was like a "dog chasing a car -- and then actually catching it". He had no idea what to do next. In the end, he figured it out, realized that he would be an idiot if he didn't fight for a life with his best friend. Today, they’re still best friends — which is what makes their relationship so strong. They balance one another with their differences, and spend too much time laughing together at terrible dad jokes. Simple pleasures like grocery shopping at Costco have turned into unforgettable date nights with one another. Hannah and Jon cannot wait to begin their next chapter with Mojo, their families, and all of their adopted children, (aka degenerate friends) by their side.
