Halito (Hello) y'all! Hannah here. We so look forward to welcoming you to our little ceremony in the big woods. In order to help acclimate and orient you to the days festivities, I wanted to include a brief overview of our overall wedding vision. The wedding will be held on the place that raised me. Our family land, Round Bottom Ranch, is nestled in the forested Ouachita Mountains of southeastern Oklahoma. “Good Lord willing and the creek don’t rise,” our ceremony will take place where two rivers meet on our property. The reception will be in an old barn in the adjacent pasture. I am from eastern Oklahoma. John grew up on land in western Oklahoma. Oklahoma is the place that holds our roots. Choosing it as a wedding theme made perfect sense. The wedding will be a little ranchy, a little boho, and a little edgy glam, with a lot of sentimental homespun country weaved throughout. It tells the story of who we are, where we came from, and who we hope to be. It’s all about our journeys through this great state touching on all things red dirt and showcasing some of the very best of the east and west. Whether you call OklaHOME or not, it is our hope that you’ll feel inspired and connected to this place and to one another as you celebrate alongside us in the land of the pines! See y'all where Blackfork meets Big Creek!
How can we have an Oklahoma themed wedding without a little Bedlam? We can’t. The University of Oklahoma and Oklahoma State University’s long-held rivalry goes back generations. It’s in our blood. We were raised on it. OSU and OU have also helped write our story. Here are the notes from Clif on it: John lived in Stillwater as a young child (before growing up on an OSU Research Ranch in Bessie, OK). John comes from a long line of OSU alum and fans. John graduated from OSU. John lived a short while in Norman. Hannah lived in Norman way too long. Hannah earned a PhD at OU. Hannah comes from a long line of die-hard OU fans. Hannah now lives in Stillwater. Hannah teaches at OSU. Hannah sometimes thinks she should’ve been a Cowboy. John has a bit of a soft spot for the “palace on the prairie” as it was the site of he and Hannah’s first date. In honor of our favorite “flagship” and “land grant,” John and I have decided that crimson and orange will be two (of our four) wedding colors. (Also, be on the lookout for our OU/OSU vignette at the wedding!) It is true y’all. We are a house divided. Bedlam may indeed evoke bedlam (noun. “a scene of uproar and confusion”). But we are family. We will not fall. We are all family really....and that includes our institutions of higher learning. OSU has long been nicknamed “OU’s little brother” who is always trying to play catch up. I think that OU and OSU are indeed like siblings. The kind of siblings who may not really get along - who give one another a hard time. But they’re also the kind of siblings who would unite with and fight for one another. Whoever would come against one of us would come against us all. Crimson. Orange. Norman. Stillwater. City. Country. East. West. Here’s to seeing beauty in difference. Here’s to being better together. Here’s to unity. Here’s to bedlam in the stadium and harmony in the home. Because there truly is only one. One state. One love. Boom Soon...and Fire the Pistols...
