We met in the summer of 2014 at Calvary Baptist Church in Magnolia, AR. Joel's brother, Trey, had just began an internship at the church to become Youth Pastor. Having had an interest in film since at least the 8th grade, Joel was invited by Trey to join their summer activities and make videos. This allowed us to spend weeks together, slowly getting to know each other, until finally becoming official that fall on August 9th. Joel was attending college at the University of Arkansas at Monticello (UAM) while I was still attending Magnolia High School. This strained our relationship in the beginning as we could only see each other on the weekends. And that's exactly what we did. During the week, Joel would be at home in Hamburg and commute to Monticello for class, and I obviously had to stay in Magnolia. But every weekend, Joel would leave on Friday for Magnolia. He would often come straight from class, and he usually arrived in time to pick me up from school. We would spend the weekend together during the day, and at night, Joel would go stay with Trey. Then, come Monday morning around 7 a.m. or so, Joel would leave Magnolia and go straight to class. This continued for an entire semester before Joel decided to transfer to Southern Arkansas University (SAU) in Magnolia. This move was no easy decision; however, three factors came into play that ultimately led Joel to this decision - seeing more of Trey (who he had lived with his entire life), seeking a degree in Digital Cinema, and seeing more of me. Now we could see each other virtually whenever we wanted barring class and morality. 4 years later of ups and downs, ins and outs, success and failure, we've decided to begin the biggest chapter of our lives yet - marriage. We both know marriage is not easy and takes a tremendous amount of work. But if we allow ourselves to be directed by the Holy Spirit, this will be the biggest blessing in our lives, and if we do it right, others will see Christ's love through us.
