How We Met

First comes coffee, then comes marriage

It all started with golf class, last semester, Firstie Year at the United States Naval Academy... Fast forward 2 months after graduation and we found ourselves in the same BDOC group in Norfolk, VA. JB had, on numerous occasions, invited Hannah to his various parties and house shindigs. Hannah had always politely declined and opted for quiet evenings in with a glass of wine and a good book to read. The Norfolk City Police also had a part to play in our story, but all will be explained later ;) On JB's 3rd attempt to ask Hannah out, he did so in the most classy, professional, and polite way to do so. On FaceBook messenger... as he did not have her phone number and had to make do. When Hannah received the message, she was underway at sea for 30+ days and hesitantly agreed. After a wonderful time at Yorgo's Bageldashery for coffee and bagels, JB decided it was time to ask for Hannah's phone number. The rest, as they say, is history.

The Proposal

Surprises, Surprises, Surprises!!!

Labor Day Weekend will forever be a memorable one! It all started when JB came up to surprise me in Newport, Rhode Island. He created a story that had him flying to CA and driving up to Mammoth Mountain the next day. Well, JB had actually flown to KY to ask my family if he could marry me. He then flew back to Norfolk, VA to begin the 10 hour drive up to Newport, RI. I was completely shocked to find JB at my hotel door at 11 p.m. 5 days earlier than we had planned. The surprises weren't over though. JB had to tell another story to me. As we were looking through photos in JB's phone from his deployment, I saw his flight information from Norfolk, VA to Louisville, KY... JB had to think fast, and told me that I had found him out, and that he was going to go to KY after Labor Day weekend where he was going to ask my family's permission for marriage. For once, I had the slip and the upper hand, or so I thought... While I was in class at Navigation School, JB had all the time to scope out the perfect spot to propose. On Saturday, September 5th, 2020, he and I went on a scheduled scooter coupe ride and drove to Brenton Point. We had breakfast with us and I ate my entire sandwich. JB, on the other hand, only had half of his for some odd reason. JB then suggested that he and I go take a walk on the beach head and grab a picture. He put his arm around me and told me that the flight information I saw was for last week, and that he already had permission. At that moment I knew what was happening, I was so excited that I said. "YES!" before he could get the, "Will you marry me?" out! Then JB pointed to a bench on the beach... It was his MOM. Then I looked beyond her and I saw two other people. I asked him, "Is that my MOM and DAD??", to which he replied, "it sure looks like them!" JB had organized our parents and his sister, Gigi, to come out! I was so happy I couldn't believe what was happening! And then his dad jumped out of the bushes saying he recorded the whole thing!
