Dating nowadays is pretty unconventional, so I was using the app Hinge to meet someone. You know the app that was designed to be deleted. Well one day I was liking profiles to pass the time when I came across the profile of a 5 foot 9 inch, brown hair, blue eyed beauty. You guessed it; it was Jake. I liked his profile first, by hearting a picture of him and who I still only assume is a family friend of his, both wearing American flag styled apparel. Jake’s however was American flag overall shorts. Nothing else. I thought, okay he seems like someone who is the life of the party, never slows down, but also looking at the other pictures he had posted could just see right off the bat he was kind, and caring. I can confirm now. I was correct. He message me first “what’s your pupper’s name?” Immediately started talking about how her name is Luna, how crazy she is, and how much of a pain she has been since the day I brought her home (all with love though), Jake told me how he had a cocker spaniel named Suzie, he’s had her since middle school if I remember, she was an old gal. Got more into talking about random topics, still keeping up with the cliche topics of ‘what do you do for work?’ ‘Likes and dislikes’. He tells me that he is an avid golf fan. Which give us our first date plan, mini golfing. We agree that loser would buy the first round, Not including the few we had before going to Prehistoric Put. I of course lost. So I owned up to our deal and we headed back over to Rookies Bar where we first initially met up with each other. Our first date was 8 whole hours. Definitely a first for us. At the end of the night I took the leap and I kissed him goodnight. We said our goodbyes and made sure to let the other know when we were home. That was the start of him and I always texting each other good morning and good night to one another. Also adding in that we talked ALL DAY, everyday. Talking was so easy with him, I didn’t feel like I was searching for the next thing to say. I could just be myself and he was able to be himself, there was no pretending, or trying to impress the other, because our true selves is what lead me to also be the first to say I love you.

We were out celebrating a birthday with some friends. Nothing too crazy, just a little bar hoping, and of course me wanting an early night in, cause I can promise you I cannot close a bar down as easily as I used to. Creeping up on midnight, we were out at Rednecks bar. Few weeks prior to this evening, we had already discussed how we wanted to proceed with each other, be exclusively non exclusive, but that night Jake looked right at me and said he didn’t want to wait to see how we were 3 weeks/months from now, we were good. We meshed together so well. So, he asked me to be his girlfriend that night.

My friend Morgan was out of town for well I couldn’t tell you what for, but being the good friend and God-dogmom I am. I agreed to pet sit for her, she even let me have a boy over *im going to insert a cringey girly laugh here*. Me and Jake went out for the night and upon coming back to the apartment, I simply said I love you, and I have for awhile. His reply…holy hell. That is now our code word for I love you.

Super Bowl Sunday, we were at Jake’s cousins place to watch them play for the second year in a row, Keep in mind they did win the year prior, maybe that means I am the good luck charm ;). Well as we all know they did win that evening, and Jake simply just looked at me. Said the simple words if Taylor Swift doesn’t get a ring that doesn’t mean you don’t have to. I knew he fully intended on proposing, I was with him when he bought the ring, but it wasn’t spring yet like he said. Knowing Jake though, once his mind is made up he is doing what he wants. So driving back to his apartment with a broken nail from attempting to shot gun a white claw. I watched him run inside, keeping some distance between us to let him last minute throw together what ever he needed to do. I open the door and I hear Berlin: Take my breath away playing and Jake. On one knee, that was the night he asked me to marry him. Finding out he had a dream a week prior: The Chiefs won the Super Bowl and he proposed. It felt right to him.
