I read once that couples who meet at a coffee shop are more likely to fall in love. Now, the statistics and truth behind this statement, I have no idea. I can say that Cole and I prove this claim to not be entirely fiction. Meeting a stranger for coffee begs to be a cliche scene in a romance movie, and was honestly out of both Cole and I's comfort zones. But with the prompting of our matchmaker Seth Bryson, we each said, "Sure why not!". We met for coffee at our local java joint, The Coffee Pot, and talked about anything from hobbies, to ambitions, and our mutual hate of country music. Four years later, we now share many of the same hobbies, work together to achieve our ambitions, and yes, still have a strong disdain towards country music.
On August 12th of 2016, Cole gifted Hannah with a promise ring. Along with the ring he said, "This is my promise to keep my commitment to you until the day I can replace this ring with the real thing, and I am so excited for that day." Nearly a year later, "that day" had finally arrived.
"Why don't we go out to a nice dinner this Friday? We haven't done something like that in awhile!" I eagerly agreed, and Cole and I headed out for a nice Italian dinner at Beppo Uno in Piqua. In line for some dessert at Cold Stone, Cole received a call from his sister Taylor, saying her car broke down at Greenville Falls, and she needed our help. Arriving at Greenville falls, Taylor was nowhere to be found, and it was determined we should walk the trails to find her. Rounding the corner, there was a balcony overlooking a waterfall with a table, chairs, and twinkle lights set up. "Oh that's cute!" I exclaimed, "Someone is having a picnic!" Walking closer, I began to notice all of our old notes hanging from the lights, and the table and chairs we had sat at on our very first date at the Coffee Pot. Then, it all clicked. "Wait?... What?!" I said as he dropped to one knee. I tried really hard to focus on what he was saying, but he had to remind me later his exact words: "Hannah Morgan Coakley, you are the love of my life and I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you marry me?" Which leads us to the next chapter in our story...
