Christian and Hannah traveled from their home in Des Moines to Upstate New York in August to stay at Christian's sister's Adirondack lake house. Christian had arranged a visit to Whiteface Mountain, one of the higher peaks in the Adirondack mountain range. It was a place Christian's family went to when Christian was a kid and one that usually has an elevator to raise visitors to the summit. Due to renovation, however, the elevator was not open to the public, which meant that Christian, Hannah, and Christian's family would need to climb a very narrow path of rock up to the top. It should be said that Christian is terrified of heights. When they parked at the edge of the mountain right below the visitor center, Christian began to sweat and hyperventilate at the sight of the breathtaking heights before him. Christian was there for a purpose, though, and knew he would need to climb. So he put his head down and held the railing and climbed, keeping lead and without stopping. When he reached the top, he stayed away from the edge, staying in the center of the summit. After a few minutes, he moved close to Hannah and tapped his nose to his sister, a predetermined signal to get her camera ready, but his sister missed the signal and continued looking out towards Lake Placid, just southwest of the mountain. Finally, he thought to himself that he had to go so he could climb back down and get off the mountain as soon as possible, and dropped to a knee. He proceeded to ask Hannah if she would marry him and Hannah eventually said yes. To their surprise and luck, there was a wedding photographer that was hiking there that day and captured the entire event! All in all, a wonderful day and a fun engagement story!
