We were technically teammates first, playing on the same Palmyra Community Center (PCC) basketball team in first grade, which was the one and only season for Hannah. We didn’t really know each other then, but Brent remembers seeing Hannah around school in her Empire sweatshirt in fourth and fifth grade. By sixth grade, mutual friends brought us into the same friend group. In seventh grade, we were paired as table partners in Mrs. Heltemes’ science class, passing notes in Brent’s agenda and gradually becoming close friends. We stayed connected throughout middle school and early high school, spending time together in the same circles. It wasn’t until junior year that we officially started dating—January 15, 2017. By spring, we went on our first penny date, flipping a coin at each turn to let it decide where the evening would take us. Since then, we've been through a lot together: two proms, four years at SUNY Potsdam, navigating life through COVID, adopting our cat Gus, and many more penny dates. We've faced loss, supported each other through big changes, and kept choosing one another through it all. On April 19, 2017, not long after we started dating, Hannah wrote, “I’m gonna marry this boy.” And on March 30, 2024, Brent proposed. She may have predicted it years ago, but Brent still managed to keep the proposal a total surprise. Hannah was in shock when he said, “Well, now that everyone’s out here…” and then got down on one knee, with some of her family there to witness the moment. Here we are, over a year later, ready for what comes next and so grateful to celebrate it with all of you. Our story wouldn’t be complete without you.
