Ben and I first met at my best friend's graduation party (thanks Logan!!) while Ben was home on break from studying at the University of Alabama. Eventually, we exchanged numbers after her party and became friends. After months of on & off again contact, Ben came home from Alabama on Christmas break. We hung out everyday he was home & since then, have been inseparable. Ben is my soulmate, and we can't wait to share this special day with everyone.
Ben and I are blessed to live in the Outer Banks and be surrounded by three gorgeous lighthouses. Every year these lighthouses close for the season on Columbus Day. Columbus Day was on October 8th, 2018. On October 8th, Ben and I decided we were going to finish out the Summer season with climbing Bodie Island Lighthouse and Cape Hatteras Lighthouse in one day. We drove all the way up to Bodie Island Lighthouse and began climbing it until I got sick at the top of the lighthouse due to heat exhaustion. After we slowly climbed down, Ben insisted on us still driving to the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse to climb it. Mind you, Cape Hatteras is the TALLEST brick lighthouse in North America. TALLEST, y'all. We arrive at Cape Hatteras lighthouse and Ben is eager to get to the top of the lighthouse, so we begin climbing yet again. Somehow, I'm still kicking as I climb all 257 steps to the balcony. Originally, Ben had planned to propose to me at the top of the lighthouse, but Chatty-Cathy here ruined that opportunity for him. (Honestly, are we really that surprised?) After Ben and I climbed back down the Lighthouse, he took me around the side of the lighthouse -- secluded, no one to talk to but him, of course-- and popped the question! It was super sweet & absolutely perfect -- besides almost passing out at Bodie Island!
