The story started on a fall night in 2022 on 17th Avenue. Michael and his friends were walking to his car, parked on the street, when they met a girl who had accidentally hit it while trying to parallel park right in front of him. After realizing that Michael lived in the 17th Ave House and Hanna was part of Navigators, we went our separate ways—but both knew there was something special. A few months later, we reconnected at an Ave House BBQ, thanks to some matchmaking friends. It didn’t take long to realize this could really go somewhere. Michael had just graduated from the UW and returned home for one last summer at Camp SAMBICA, while Hanna spent the summer down south working and living with her sister, Lily. Despite busy schedules, we continued to see each other throughout the summer. Our summer hangouts culminated with a June 16, 2023 Mariners game, where we decided to make our relationship official—what a great call that was! Soon came our first “I love you,” followed by two years filled with adventures between trips to Whidbey Island, walks along the water, dinners in Seattle, movie nights, Indian food, summers at camp, a spontaneous road trip to California, fun times with friends, settling into our church, trips to Richland, weekend hangouts at the Wimmer house, bonfires at the Dexter Mansion, boatloads of nicknames, and so much more. On Friday, September 12th, we set out on a boat cruise on Lake Sammamish. As Mike suggested taking a moment to reflect on all the Lord had blessed us with, Hanna watched him walk to the bow of the boat where she was sitting. He took her hand, helped her to stand, and got down on one knee. Hearts racing with nerves, love, excitement, and gratitude, we happily committed to spending the rest of our lives together! What a joy it has been! The more we got to dive deeper into understanding the kind of person the other truly was, the more our love has continued to grow; uniting around the qualities of kindness, joy, encouragement, selflessness, love for others, love for the Lord, and for Husky football. We truly believe God has placed us together on purpose, and we’re excited to continue pursuing His purpose for our lives, and to keep pushing each other towards becoming more like the person of Jesus each day. God has filled our relationship with so much joy, and we’re grateful for it every day. Now we get to celebrate what God is doing in our lives with all the people we love! We are so thankful and incredibly thrilled to continue doing life alongside all of you. We can’t wait—come party with us!
