"Oh, how bossy." That was the first conversation we had, if it counted. Aside from having a few mutual friends, we didn't exactly get on well. And our friends would never have thought of pairing us together, though that ended up working wonderfully when we took matters into our own hands. The glares and scowls only stopped in senior year, when we found ourselves begrudgingly counting on each other to finish our thesis together. Late nights stretching out until the wee hours of the morning, made just a little bit more bearable by good conversation over a Google document refusing to cooperate. Before we knew it, one flirty joke led to another and it was 2am and we didn't want to go to bed yet, even though we were starting our first jobs in the morning. We took every chance to spend some time in the final chapters of the pandemic - even saying "hi" through two face masks was exciting when it meant spending five minutes together in the lobby.
