It's 4 hours east of Detroit.  Make sure you bring your passport since you'll be crossing through Canada.  The view from the Canadian side is better than the US side.  Good if you're planning on stopping by Toronto

Niagara Falls

4 hours north of Michigan.  Its a quaint city good for a day trip - come here for the fudge and the "no cars" on the island.  You have to take the ferry across but there are bike rentals on the other side.

Mackinac Island

Great museum with a cute indoor/outdoor coffee shop.

Detroit Institute of Arts

It's an outdoor walkable museum.  Plenty of things to see and do.  Great for kids.  Right next to Henry Ford Museum.
