Zainab and Hamza met during the last 10 nights of Ramadan a few years ago. Talk about an answered dua. While they did not speak that night, they went on to live the following summer in parallel, attending the same events, going to the same dinner parties, secretly hoping the other would be there. An “Eid Mubarak” at the masjid, a “salam” at a graduation party, led to her uncle finding Hamza at his doorstep, pizza in hand. “I didn’t know what to bring for an occasion like this. Sorry, I got hungry and ate a slice.” They laughed and proceeded to have a conversation where Hamza made his intentions clear. Thus began the story of two young kids falling in love. The story gets a little less funny from there. While Hamza does continue to embarrass himself (he no longer feels embarrassment) and Zainab does continue to laugh with (at) him, the tale is mostly filled with studying, long distance, phone calls, and more studying. But that’s what your 20’s are for right? Living far away from your significant other and spending all your time studying far away from the people you love? Right? Jokes aside, we would like to thank you all for sharing this special moment with us and hope these events mark a continuation of this beautiful love story.
